May 2025

Hi Reader,

For a new mom, welcoming a newborn is undoubtedly a life changing experience that shifts priorities. It doesn’t mean she loses her drive to pursue her passions and accomplish big goals though. Case in point: ultramarathon runner Stephanie Case.

Earlier this month, she tackled an intense 100 km trail race across northern Wales just six months postpartum. She not only completed the race while stopping to breastfeed three times, Case ended up placing first against her female competitors. The best part? She didn’t even realize she won!

The proud mom shared in her Instagram post that,

“While it broke my heart to leave little Pepper at the aid stations, I wanted to show her - both of us - how amazing mom runners can be.”

Having her daughter Pepper didn’t hinder her, it jet fueled her passion and instilled even more motivation to achieve her goals. It’s an incredible story that's worth a quick read if you’re interested in learning more.

A word of caution

While I’m completely obsessed with this display of mom-empowerment and breastfeeding triumph, this feel-good story needs a small asterisk. We shouldn’t expect all postpartum moms to be ready to hit the ground running (literally or figuratively) and Case is careful to mention that in her post as well.

Moms need space to recover in their own time and pursue goals at a pace that’s comfortable for them. When their passion does light back up though, support them in fanning those flames. The last thing they need is to feel guilty for taking time for themselves or face judgment when pursuing their career goals.

It sounds complicated, but it’s as simple as giving moms a safe space to share how they're feeling as they navigate the journey of motherhood. Active listening is everything.
