Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) has always been a hot button topic. Since the Trump administration took the reins in the U.S. though, it’s back in the headlines with many Americans cheering as they watch these programs dismantled. So, it begs the question, what about Boobbatical?
I’ve thought long and hard about what this anti-DEI movement means for a platform based on building more inclusion for working (and nursing) moms. I pride myself on being self-aware and appreciate moments that prompt me to take a look in the mirror or put myself into the shoes of others.
With the slew of diversity trainings and stringent guidelines pushed onto the workforce in recent years, it’s understandable why many are feeling exhausted and, frankly, disgruntled with anything labeled as DEI. On the other hand, I strongly believe it’s been good for us as a society. We may not get everything right 100% of the time, but at least we’ve reinforced the little internal voice that reminds us to be more empathetic.
I could throw in the Boobbatical towel or wait for things to blow over, but I’m choosing to be optimistic. I truly believe (most) managers want to be effective, empathetic leaders. They will do the right thing if they’re provided with the tools and resources they need to do it.
So, onward we go, building belonging one internal voice at a time.
